If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me this question….well, I’d be writing posts like this way more often. Kidding – but not really.

¬†After several of my friends admitted they had no idea what I did for a living I made it a personal goal to engage and communicate more with long-term friends and associates personally and professional. Not only is it important to me to catch up but I would rather support and build with people I’ve known for years. As a start, I figured I’d write a few posts annually that give updates, announcements, opportunities, etc and hopefully this can spark personal 1:1 conversation and collaboration offline.

So, what do I do? By day, I’m a communications manager for IBM working with the cloud computing products. (Think PR – media, conferences, events, marketing – for tech products).

I host a series of meetups and mixers in DC for multicultural tech professionals called Socially Innovative. I’m taking a sabbatical from them while I regroup and rebrand the site to a tech events portal.

I also recently became the Co-Founder Marketing Director for Tiphub, a budding business accelerator and consultancy that develops seed stage social enterprises and tech startups in Africa and the African Diaspora. We’re kind of like a one-stop-shop for startups providing them with resources, mentorship, tools and funding to get their businesses from point A to point B. We have an upcoming pitch competition called Diaspora Demo Day during Global Entrepreneurship Week and have partner hubs in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa and Kenya.

Prior to my current roles I co-founded Blerdology, a social enterprise to increase the number of African-Americans in tech and one of the first organization to host community hackathons specifically targeting black neighborhoods. We dissolved the company last year when my partner and I decided to go separate ways. (No, its not coming back.)

I also recently moved to Orlando from DC. I needed to declutter and free up funds for investments. I’m actually enjoying it thus far.

Okkkk…so what now? Well, If you have the time or energy – let me know what’s going on with you. How can we work together? How can I help? Coming to the area soon? Hell – lets just chat. Feel free to share below or just ping me on fb / by phone.

I look forward to the meeting of the minds.

Best,

Amanda
